چکیده

The paper discusses fabrication of homogenous and heterogeneous breast phantoms to simulate the dielectric properties of human breast over the microwave frequency range from 0.5GHz to 13.5GHz. The breast phantoms have stable mechanical configuration and dielectric properties suitable for microwave imaging experiments particularly ultra-wideband microwave imaging for breast cancer detection.

Experimental Assessment of Microwave Di- Agnostic Tool for Ultra-wideband Breast Cancer Detection

An ultra-wideband microwave imaging system that employs a heterogeneous breast phantom and covers the ultrawideband (UWB) frequency range (3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz) is presented. The platform scanning system allows monostatic and bistatic mode of operation. In this work, developed heterogeneous phantoms are used to mimic the realistic breast tissues. A utilized tapered slot antenna array allows for ...

Low-cost Vector Network Analyzer for Biomedical Applications

A low-cost and portable vector network analyzer (VNA) which covered operating frequency between 1MHz to 3GHz is used for vector reflection coefficient and standing wave ratio (swr) of the various microstrip antennas. This paper presents measurements of various ultra wideband (uwb) microstrip antennas for applications in biomedical field. Selection of antenna is an important key for detection of...

UWB Space-Time Beamforming for Patient-Specific Microwave Hyperthermia Treatment of Breast Cancer: 3-D Computational Study using Anatomically Realistic Breast Phantoms

We investigate the feasibility of non-invasive ultra-wideband microwave hyperthermia treatment of breast cancer using three-dimensional (3-D) breast phantoms with anatomical and dielectric-properties realism. Space-time transmit beamforming is used to generate the signals transmitted by a hemispherical antenna array into the breast. The performance of this approach is evaluated for beamformers ...

Ultra-Wideband Pulse-Based Microwave Imaging for Breast Cancer Detection: Experimental Issues and Compensations

Recent research based on numerical modeling (Bond, 2003; Xu, 2001) that ignored hardware characteristics and simple experiments using homogenous breast phantoms (Sill, 2005; Xu, 2004) have shown the potential of ultra-wideband to detect early stage breast cancer. However, clutter interference from heterogeneous breast tissues and hardware characteristics like pulse jitter, finite dynamic range ...

Weighted Centroid Method for Breast Tumor Localization Using an Uwb Radar

This paper studies the potential of ultra-wideband (UWB) microwave imaging for detection and localization of breast cancer in its early stages. A method is proposed for locating tumors which is based on the time-of-flight of the signal backscattered at the tumor. Timeof-flight is detected using a wavelet transform algorithm. The main contribution of this paper is that it proposes to determine t...
